Our story

Garrickaro Co. began the way many typewriter shops do: with one machine that nobody else would fix. What started as a personal obsession with getting a seized Underwood to type again grew into a full-time bench, a wall of parts drawers, and a steady stream of customers from Arvada and the surrounding Denver communities.

Today we service everything from 1920s standards to 1980s electronic daisy-wheels. Writers bring us the portables they draft novels on. Offices bring us Selectrics that still fill out carbon forms. Families bring us heirlooms wrapped in blankets, hoping we can make them work one more time. Usually, we can.

How we work

Every machine gets a bench inspection before anything else. We identify the model and serial number, test each function, and note what is worn, broken, or simply dirty. Then you receive a written estimate that separates what the machine needs from what would be nice to have. Nothing is done without your approval, and if we find something unexpected once the machine is apart, we call before proceeding.

We follow factory service procedures where they exist and decades of accumulated shop knowledge where they do not. We use the correct lubricants sparingly, never household spray oils, and we preserve original paint, decals and character unless you specifically ask for cosmetic refinishing.

What we believe

• A typewriter is a tool first. It should be dependable enough to use every day.
• Honesty saves everyone money. If a repair does not make sense, we say so.
• Originality matters. Patina is history, not damage.
• Knowledge should be shared. Our resources exist so you can care for your machine yourself.

We are located at 5630 Everett St, Arvada, CO 80002, in the heart of Olde Town. Parking is available on the street and in the nearby public lots. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours; call (303) 422-9993 if you are bringing a heavy standard machine and we will help you carry it in.
